Changelog

What's changed in the game client, newest first.

2026.11.05.1737

Latest
  • Client updates are now offered before you log in, so updating no longer means signing in twice.
  • New "Stay signed in" option on the login screen. Log Out turns it off.
  • The client's log no longer records your password.
  • You can grab the ropes strung between beams and shimmy across them again, such as those in Noogo Village.
  • Noogo Village: the spider boss at the Mysterious Warrior is gone. It no longer ambushes you or shoots at you, and you can talk to the Warrior straight away.

2026.11.05.1559

  • Going through a portal no longer leaves you showing "Invincible 999s" with the glow on forever.
  • The login screen now says MQ Rewritten.

2026.11.05.1536

  • The monkey creator and character select now show the real tribe names: Sea Dragon, Chim Foo, Ice Raider and Ootu Mystic.
  • Jumping through a hoop no longer floods the screen with colour: its sparkles are back to their normal size.
  • The login screen now moves to the server a new build points at, instead of keeping an older remembered one.
  • Banana Bash: stand at the big target and press the interact key to headbutt it. The server doesn't count headbutts yet, so the meter, the party and the "Participate in the Banana Bash" quest can't finish.
  • Running out of air underwater hurts again: 10% of your health every 3 s once the 31 s of air are gone.
  • A portal or fast travel to a level you can't enter yet no longer leaves you stuck on the loading screen; you go back to the game with "You can't travel there yet."
  • One-off hits and pet energy changes no longer show in the active effects list as "Effect 72" and the like.
  • Dev menu: the + Bananas button uses the server's new /givebananas (owner accounts only).

2026.11.03.2344

  • World map (N, or the new map tile beside the hotbar): the original map of Ook with a tab per tribe, your monkey and your tracked quest marked on it. Click a place to fast travel there. The name of the place you're in shows above the map tile.
  • The inventory shows your NickCash (NC) next to your bananas, like the original.
  • Noogo Village spider: it no longer floats back up after landing (it looked out of reach while its hitbox was on the floor), faces the camera head-on instead of always looking right, and comes down in about 2 s instead of 6.
  • Its intro is a short cutscene again: controls lock while it comes down, it and your companion say their lines (your companion also speaks when it retreats), and the camera stays on it until it has landed.
  • Bosses show a health bar with their name at the top of the screen while they fight.
  • Stairs and ramps made of invisible ziplines (e.g. the Noogo Village temple stairs) are one smooth ride up or down instead of bouncing at each joint, and have a floor under them again, so you can't walk off into the gap at the bottom.
  • Ziplines, ropes and zipline ramps work like the original: going up you run up on top of the line (no more popping underneath it), you chain from line to line without dropping or slowing at the joints, and grabbing a line no longer snaps you sideways. Down swings you under a two-way line and Down again lets go (it used to drop you at once); down-only lines are ridden hanging, and icy lines are faster and harder to climb.
  • Arenas: the altar statue is visible again (it, and any other model stored compressed in the game files, used to be missing), rises when the arena starts and breaks apart when you win; the hand switch you stand on turns and glows when you press E, like the original.
  • Melee (or a grenade) in mid-air stops your fall for the swing, then you carry on falling, like the original. After an air attack that weapon waits 1.9 s, so spamming it no longer freezes you in the air.
  • Crafting (U, or the new Craft tile beside the inventory): the original recipe book with Gear and Alchemy pages, filters, "craftable recipes only", ingredients you have vs need, and Create with how many to make. Right-click a recipe scroll in your inventory to learn it.
  • Moving grab bars (and vines on moving platforms) can be grabbed wherever they are and carry you along; you used to be pulled back to where the bar started.
  • The air meter shows just above your monkey while underwater, like the original, and an alarm repeats once less than a quarter of your air is left.
  • Swinging vines swing in step for every player, your monkey's pose follows the vine, and jumping off launches you the way the vine is swinging. Down no longer drops you off a vine; jump to let go, like the original.

2026.10.30.1239

  • Project is now a git repository; this changelog starts here.
  • Quest objectives with no text (e.g. Shadow Assault's "Objective 1115") are no longer listed, like the original; they still count toward finishing the quest.
  • Noogo Village: the Shadow Rachnoid that ambushes you at the Mysterious Warrior (Grim News) is now visible; it used to stay hidden on the ceiling while it shot at you from the floor. Spider bosses now come down, drop and climb like the original, and the camera shows it coming down as soon as you reach the Warrior.

2026.10.29.2246

  • Loading screen shows the level's in-game name ("Clock Tower Square") instead of its internal name (LV_…), also in the download progress line.

2026.10.29.2150

First build with the content pipeline and self-update:

  • Content packs: levels, sounds, icons, effects, monkey outfits and pets download as ready-made packs instead of being converted from Unity bundles on each PC (no more freezes entering big levels like Clock Tower Square).
  • Updates screen after login: offers a newer client (Update & restart) and missing content (Download all / Later); a stopped download resumes where it left off.
  • Each level downloads with progress on the loading screen the first time you visit it, if not downloaded already.
